Explore new sonic horizons with Uno FM from Xsynth – a virtual synthesizer that combines the power of FM synthesis with an intuitive interface inspired by classic analog instruments. Uno FM doesn’t aim to be a clone of legendary FM synthesizers; instead, it carves its own unique niche, offering a fresh approach to timbre creation.
This plugin allows you to create a variety of sounds: from crystal-clear bells to rich basses and leads. Its architecture, based on frequency modulation, is presented in a way that’s familiar to users of subtractive synthesizers, simplifying the learning curve.
Uno FM Sound Fundamentals
At the heart of the synthesizer is its flexible oscillator system. Uno FM has five sound sources:
- One sine wave carrier oscillator.
- Three sine wave oscillators for FM modulation.
- One ring modulation oscillator with various waveforms.
Each oscillator has level, fine-tuning, and volume settings with indicators. You can adjust the amount of FM and ring modulation, mix oscillator outputs (OSC MIX), and use synchronization (Sync On/Off).
The plugin supports 8-note polyphony and comes with 128 pre-made presets. It’s possible to save your own patches.
Modulation and Filtering Capabilities
For shaping the timbre, Uno FM offers two ADSR envelopes: one for controlling the amount of FM modulation, and another for volume (VCA). This allows for the creation of dynamic and evolving sounds.
Additional modulation tools include one LFO with adjustable speed, the ability to control with Aftertouch and the modulation wheel, and influence on the VCO.
There’s fixed Key Tracking for changing parameters depending on the note’s pitch and a High Pass Filter for cleaning up the sound from low frequencies.
Built-in Effects and Performance Parameters
Uno FM has a built-in stereo chorus with a slight delay (0-200 ms). You can adjust the depth and speed of the chorus modulation, adding space and movement to the sound.
Expressiveness in performance is provided by:
- A multi-functional arpeggiator.
- Adjustable velocity sensitivity.
- Pitch bend range of 1-12 semitones.
- Customizable portamento.
- Mono and Retrigger modes.
- Transposition of +/- 5 octaves.
- MIDI Receive Channel settings.
Uno FM from Xsynth is a tool for experimentation and creating unique FM timbres. Its intuitive interface makes FM synthesis accessible, and its flexible sound shaping and performance capabilities make it a valuable addition to any musical project.
