Tunefish – Virtual Analog Synthesizer with Demoscene Roots
Introducing Tunefish – a unique virtual analog synthesizer developed by the Brain Control team. Its story began in the world of the demoscene, where it was created as an ultra-compact instrument for 64-kilobyte intros. Despite its miniature origins, Tunefish offers impressive depth and flexibility of sound.
The original version fit in 10 KB of code, but now the developers provide free access to the full VSTi version. This is a constantly evolving project, and your feedback is very important for its improvement.
Sound Engine Capabilities
At the heart of Tunefish lies an innovative oscillator:
- Spline oscillator: Uses splines for dynamic and flexible waveform shaping, going beyond standard forms.
- Additive synthesis: Allows adding harmonics to create complex timbres.
- Customizable waveforms: Create any forms using 6 points and various interpolation types (stepped, linear, spline).
- Noise generator: Precise adjustment of noise frequency and bandwidth.
Filtering and Modulation
Filters are available for timbre shaping:
- Lowpass
- Highpass
- Bandpass
- Notch
The modulation system is extremely flexible:
- 4 ADSR envelopes: Independent envelopes for dynamic control.
- 4 LFOs: Add movement and variability with four low-frequency generators.
- Modulation matrix: Assign ADSR and LFO to almost any parameter for complex modulations.
Built-in Effects
The plugin includes effects for final processing:
- Flanger, Chorus
- Distortion
- Delay, Reverb
- EQ
- Formant
The effects stack allows you to build a chain of up to 10 effects in any order, giving you full control over processing.
Compatibility and Availability
Tunefish supports VST and AU formats on most OSes:
- Windows (32/64-bit)
- macOS
- Linux
This synthesizer is an excellent choice for sound designers and newcomers, offering unique possibilities for free. Try Tunefish!
