The Dreammachine

Welcome to the world of The Dreammachine by HG Fortune – a virtual instrument that opens up new horizons in creating atmospheric and evolving soundscapes. Its unique concept is based on the interaction of three sound layers with a slow wave sequencing and unique modulations. This is the perfect tool for musicians and sound designers who want to explore unpredictable sound textures.

New features of version 3

With the release of the third version, The Dreammachine has become much more powerful and flexible, gaining polyphony. Now it can be used as a full-fledged synthesizer, allowing you to create complex harmonic structures and rich sound canvases.

Three main ways to play

The plugin offers several convenient ways to interact:

  1. Using the built-in note sequencer: Play independently or supplement with your own playing to create moving patterns.
  2. Holding a note: Generate sound by holding a note and changing it in real time, focusing on modulation and texture.
  3. Play as a 16-voice synthesizer: Use up to 6 oscillators per key to create rich and multi-faceted sounds.

Detailed sound architecture

The plugin has a multi-layered architecture with three main parts and an additional OneShot part:

  • Bottom/Low (Bass): Forms the low-frequency basis, associated with the note sequencer.
  • Back/Mid (Pad): Creates mid-frequency textures and atmospheric backgrounds.
  • Sparkle/High: Adds high-frequency sparkle and details.
  • OneShot: For unique one-time sound events (vocals, percussion, Sfx) with 32 steps.

Sequencing and Modulation

Each of the three main parts has a 16-step sequencer for oscillator waves, allowing you to program evolving timbres. The note sequencer offers a duophony option (second note at the selected distance). The Back/Mid and Sparkle/High parts can be shifted in pitch by +/- 12 semitones for precise tuning of consonance. Manual control of the sequencers is possible using MIDI keys (#24, #26, #28, #29, #35).

Ease of use

The names of the waves are displayed and available for selection from the pop-up menus at each step of the sequencer, which greatly simplifies the experimentation process.

The Dreammachine by HG Fortune is a tool for sound exploration and creating unusual textures. Its unique architecture and flexible capabilities make it a valuable addition for any musician or sound designer on Windows.
