SynthX

SynthX: Deep Bass and Aggressive Character in Your DAW

Looking for a powerful monophonic synthesizer to create basslines or fat leads with character? SynthX by Kriminal is the perfect tool to add a unique sound to your tracks. This compact yet functional VST plugin is designed specifically for the needs of modern electronic music, where bass plays a key role.

Forget complex multi-oscillator structures. SynthX focuses on the main thing: a clean, focused monophonic sound that easily cuts through the mix. Its simple interface hides deep possibilities for shaping the timbre, from soft analog textures to aggressive, harmonic-rich sounds.

Key Features of SynthX:

  • One Oscillator with Classic Waveforms: At the heart of SynthX is a single oscillator that generates basic, but extremely effective for bass waveforms: sine, saw, and pulse. These forms are the foundation for many iconic bass sounds in the history of electronic music, allowing you to create both deep sub-basses and bright, harmonically rich timbres.
  • Unique Asymmetrical Drive: One of the highlights of SynthX is its asymmetrical distortion block. Unlike standard symmetrical saturators, this drive adds odd harmonics, making the sound more “dirty”, dense, and aggressive. Drive control is done via a convenient X-Y panel, which allows you to experiment and find unique points of sound saturation.
  • Three Filter Types to Choose From: SynthX offers flexibility in shaping the timbre with three different low-pass filters:
    • Legacy (3P-18dB LP): A softer, classic filter with an 18dB per octave slope, which is great for smooth basslines.
    • Classic (4P Moog LP): An emulation of the legendary Moog filter with a 24dB per octave slope, known for its rich resonance and “fat” character. Ideal for funky basses and resonant effects.
    • Vintage (4P-24dB Saturated LP): Another 24 dB filter, but with additional saturation, which gives the sound vintage warmth, compression, and additional harmonics at high resonance.

These filters allow you to radically change the character of the sound, from soft and round to sharp and piercing.

  • Two ADSR Envelopes: Separate ADSR envelopes for the filter (Filter ADSR) and amplitude (Amp ADSR) provide full control over the dynamics and evolution of the sound over time. Create a variety of articulations: from short, percussive basses to long, rising pads or resonant effects.
  • Retrigger and Glide: The Retrigger (restarting the envelopes with each note) and Glide (smooth movement between notes) functions are important tools for creating expressive basslines and leads, allowing you to imitate playing on analog monosynths.

SynthX’s Sound Potential: More Than Just Bass

Although SynthX is positioned as a bass synthesizer, its capabilities go beyond just low frequencies. The combination of the selected waveform, unique drive, and various filters allows you to create impressive leads, effects, and even percussive sounds. Asymmetrical distortion adds aggression and “grit”, perfect for dubstep, drum and bass or industrial tracks. Moog-style filters will work great in funk, techno or house, giving the basses a characteristic bounce and resonance. And the vintage saturated filter will add warmth and analogity to any timbre.

Thanks to its intuitive interface and focused set of functions, SynthX will be a great tool for both beginners and experienced sound designers looking for a specific, powerful bass or lead.
