Altair 4

Altair 4: Sound Laboratory for Sci-Fi and Horror

Welcome to the sound laboratory that will take you to the darkest and most mysterious corners of space and imagination. Altair 4 is not just a virtual instrument, it’s a portal to the world of science fiction, horror, and fantasy, created for composers and sound designers looking for unique, atmospheric, and eerie sounds.

This plugin is ideal for creating soundtracks for films, games or animation in genres such as SciFi, Suspense, Horror, Fantasy and others where special, spatial, “wobbly” FX sounds are needed. It can do more than just create background noises – Altair 4 can generate bell-like timbres and even organically fit into fairly ordinary musical compositions, adding originality and depth to them.

Altair 4 is also a tribute to the cult film “Forbidden Planet” (1956). This film was the first to have a completely electronic soundtrack, using sounds that could well have been created with this plugin. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of classical electronic music and explore new sonic horizons.

Key features of Altair 4:

  • Two oscillators: Each has two sound sources, where one (B) makes the other (A) resonate, opening up wide possibilities for complex sound generation.
  • Advanced control parameters: Each oscillator has three modulation inputs and a large number of settings for precise sound shaping.
  • Three LFOs: L1 (7 waveforms) with start from the first pressed key, L2 (8 waveforms) with phase modulation, and L3 (7 waveforms) with optional modulation from sub-LFO.
  • Hidden LFOs: Two additional LFOs – L12 (mix of L1 and L2) and L13 (mix of L1 and L3) for even greater modulation flexibility.
  • Sample & Hold: One module with 6 operating modes for creating randomized and rhythmic modulation patterns.
  • VCA with AR EG: Gain control with attack-release (AR) envelope and pan function for non-delayed sound in the reverb section.
  • Master volume control: Volume control with different modes – fixed, by key press sensitivity (Velocity), Aftertouch or wheel (Wheel).
  • Delay with synchronization: Delay effect that can be synchronized with the project’s tempo (BPM), has its own pan control.
  • Bass Boost: A special function for boosting low frequencies, which adds power and depth to the sound.
  • Reverb: High-quality reverb effect with the ability to adjust the initial delay (predelay), which allows you to place the sound in space.
  • Hold function: Button to hold the last pressed note, which is useful for creating drones or atmospheric pads.
  • Joypad: A unique control element with three moving “balls” that can control up to 6 different parameters simultaneously, allowing you to create dynamic and complex sound transformations in real time.
  • 8 voices of polyphony: Allows you to play chords and create rich sound textures.
  • 256 presets: Two banks of 128 patches provide a huge collection of ready-made sounds for quick start and inspiration.

Altair 4 by HG Fortune is a powerful tool for experimenting with sound, especially if you’re working on projects that require unusual, atmospheric, and cinematic sounds. It combines classic synthesis principles with unique features, such as the joypad and specific oscillator structure, which makes it a valuable addition to the arsenal of any sound designer or musician. From eerie pads and small details to powerful effects and leads – this synthesizer is capable of a lot.
