Swamp

Swamp – A Synthesizer with Unique Timbre Modulation

Introducing Swamp by HG Fortune – an unusual synthesizer distinguished by its unique approach to sound shaping through timbre modulation. Forget about conventional synthesis methods – Swamp processes oscillator waveforms in a special way, opening up new sonic horizons.

This synthesizer is designed for those seeking fresh, unexpected textures and wanting to go beyond traditional synthesizer sounds. The main magic of Swamp lies in its ability to shift the frequencies of the processed signal to the mid and high ranges. This not only enriches the sound with additional harmonics, making it more saturated and interesting, but can also give it a metallic tint. Interestingly, while the result may resemble the effect of ring modulation, Swamp achieves this in a completely different, original way.

Architecture and Features

Swamp has a flexible architecture that allows for detailed control over sound shaping at each stage:

  • Two Digital PCM Wave Oscillators: The heart of Swamp is two oscillators based on 64 diverse PCM waveforms. This provides a wide palette of initial sounds from which the synthesis process begins.
  • Dual Output for Each Oscillator: Each oscillator generates not one, but two output signals: normal and timbre-modulated. This gives unprecedented control over how much “normal” sound and how much unique timbre processing you want to mix.
  • Timbre Modulation System: A special algorithm processes the waveforms, creating the same unique effect of harmonic enrichment and metallic character without the use of ring modulation.
  • Flexible Signal Routing: The oscillator output signals (both normal and timbre-modulated) can be mixed using special sliders and routed either to the filter section or directly to the VCA output. This allows you to create both heavily processed and cleaner sounds, as well as experiment with combinations.
  • Filter: A built-in low-pass filter with a slope of 24db per octave allows you to shape the tonal character of the sound, removing unnecessary high frequencies or creating classic synthesizer effects, such as resonant sweeps.
  • ADSR Envelope Generators: Two ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) envelope generators provide full control over the dynamics and parameter changes over time. You can use them to control the volume, filter cutoff frequency, or other modulated parameters.
  • BPM-Synchronized LFOs: Four low-frequency oscillators (LFOs) can be synchronized with the tempo of your project (BPM). This is ideal for creating rhythmic modulations, vibrato, tremolo, and other cyclical effects that move along with the music.
  • BPM-Synchronized Sample & Hold: Three Sample & Hold generators, also synchronized with BPM, allow you to create stepped, random, or pseudo-random modulations, adding unpredictability and interesting rhythmic movement to the sound.
  • BPM-Synchronized Delay with Pan Modulation: A built-in delay effect that synchronizes with the tempo, complemented by pan modulation from the LFO. This allows you to create echo effects that “dance” in the stereo field according to the rhythm.

Swamp by HG Fortune is more than just a synthesizer. It’s a tool for sonic experiments that allows you to create unique timbres that are difficult to obtain by other methods. Its intuitive interface (though visually simple) conceals deep sound-shaping capabilities. This plugin will be a valuable addition to the arsenal of any musician or sound designer seeking new sound palettes for their tracks. Try Swamp and immerse yourself in the swamp of unique timbres!
