Scylla – Hybrid Synthesizer and Sampler from de la Mancha
Discover an infinite world of sonic possibilities with Scylla – a unique multi-layered synthesizer from de la Mancha. This instrument is a powerful hybrid that masterfully combines traditional subtractive synthesis with the playback of custom samples and waveforms, adding ring modulation and granular synthesis to this mix. Scylla is designed to create a wide range of sounds – from lush atmospheric pads to experimental soundscapes and effects. It’s not just a synthesizer, but a real creative laboratory, limited only by your imagination.
Scylla offers an intuitive interface and deep sound design capabilities. Whether you’re creating music in the genres of electronic music, film, ambient, or experimenting with sound, Scylla will become your indispensable tool.
Key features of Scylla
At the heart of Scylla lies its multi-layered architecture. The plugin has three independent programmable audio layers, each of which can function as a powerful oscillator or a flexible sampler.
Layers and sound sources
- Three programmable audio layers: Each layer is a separate sound source with its own settings and processing chain.
- Sampler: The built-in sampler in each layer can load custom samples and waveforms in .WAV format. It offers various playback modes (looping, one-shot, loop on release), basic processing functions (normalization, stereo to mono, zero crossing) and flexible loop point settings. Supports granular and wavetable playback.
- Oscillator: Each layer can also function as an oscillator with three different types of generation: Dual oscillator with cross-modulation, Morphing oscillator and Spectral oscillator. This provides a huge palette of synthesized timbres.
Unique processing and modulation capabilities
- Granular synthesis: One of Scylla’s key features is its granular capabilities, available both globally and at the level of each sampler. This allows you to create unique textures, sound clouds and experimental effects.
- Ring modulation: Available for each layer, ring modulation adds distinctive metallic or harmonically rich hues to the sound.
- Filter: Each layer has its own filter with variable cutoff for shaping the timbre.
- Envelopes: The flexible envelope system includes Amplitude and filter envelopes for each layer with the ability to change contours, as well as a Global amplitude envelope.
- LFO: Two assignable per-layer LFOs can modulate ring modulation parameters, filter cutoff frequencies, and the phase of another LFO, adding dynamics and movement to the sound.
- Unison: Allows you to thicken and expand the sound, creating a chorus or ensemble effect.
Content and control flexibility
- Sample and preset library: Scylla comes with 96MB of high-quality sample material, including waveforms, samples, and loops. Also available are 128 ready-made presets from the famous sound designer brian botkiller, which demonstrate the plugin’s capabilities and serve as a great starting point.
- Independent control: Each sound source (sampler or oscillator) has independent pitch (tune), volume and pan settings.
- Flexible mixing: The mix level of each sound source in a layer and the mix level of each layer can be precisely adjusted, providing full control over the balance. Master volume control is available.
- CPU optimization: Any sound source, envelope, ring modulation or filter can be turned off to save CPU resources if they are not in use.
- Midi CC support: Full Midi CC support for external control of plugin parameters.
Scylla from de la Mancha is a powerful and versatile tool for sound designers and musicians looking for a unique sound. Its hybrid architecture, flexible modulation capabilities, and emphasis on granular synthesis make it a real diamond in your collection of virtual instruments.
