ProtoPlasm Pro by HG Fortune: The Master of Atmospheric Sounds
ProtoPlasm Pro by developer HG Fortune is a specialized VST instrument designed for immersing yourself in the world of atmospheric soundscapes, lush pads, and unique textures. This synthesizer is an ideal tool for musicians and sound engineers who aim to add depth, space, and emotion to their compositions in genres like ambient, electronic music, film soundtracks, and many others where a rich and dynamic sound atmosphere plays a key role.
Forget about standard sounds – ProtoPlasm Pro offers a rich palette of possibilities for creating truly original and captivating audio.
Key Features and Sound Engine
At the heart of ProtoPlasm Pro is its flexible and multifunctional architecture, which combines different types of oscillators and advanced modulation capabilities.
- Oscillators: The plugin is equipped with three digital PCM oscillators that work with a library of 128 diverse waveforms, including 123 brand new ones specifically designed for this synthesizer. Additionally, there is a separate Attack Oscillator with 128 of its own waveforms, whose level can be controlled via velocity sensitivity. This allows for the creation of dynamic and expressive transient processes. The level of each oscillator can be modulated by various sources through the Modulation Matrix.
- Filters: For fine-tuning and timbre shaping, two types of filters are available – a Low-Pass filter (LP filter) with a cut-off slope of 24 dB/octave and a High-Pass filter (HP filter) with a slope of 12 dB/octave. Both filters have their own ADSR envelopes (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release), Filter FM functions, and keytracking, which expands their expressive capabilities.
Advanced Modulation and Effects Capabilities
ProtoPlasm Pro stands out for its deep modulation capabilities, which allow you to bring sound to life and add unpredictability to it.
- Modulation Matrix: A flexible Modulation Matrix for LFO allows the use of positive and negative inputs, opening the way to complex and interconnected modulation routes.
- Super Modulation Morphing: A unique morphing function via the Mod Wheel allows for a smooth transition between different modulation states, selecting rows in the Modulation Matrix for this effect.
- LFO and S&H: The plugin has two LFOs with shaped waveforms, which can be synchronized with the project’s tempo (BPM-synced) and work in pattern mode. There is also a third LFO with 21 complex waveforms and free speed adjustment, as well as a shaped Sample & Hold, which is also synchronized with BPM.
- LKO System for Delay: A special LKO (Key-dependant) system for the delay effect offers four operating modes that depend on the pressed keys, allowing you to create interesting rhythmic and melodic delays.
- Effects and Output: A stereo delay is available, which is synchronized with the tempo (BPM-synced). The levels of the direct signal, the signal after the LP filter, and the signal after the HP filter are adjusted separately, each with its own panning parameter.
Additional Functions
- External File Support: ProtoPlasm Pro allows you to load external Soundfonts (.sf2) and Wav (.wav) files for use as sound sources for oscillators, which significantly expands the sound palette.
ProtoPlasm Pro is more than just a synthesizer; it is a tool for creating sound universes. Its in-depth modulation capabilities, the variety of oscillators, and unique functions make it a valuable addition to the arsenal of any producer looking for new ways of expression in creating atmospheric music and sound design.
