Audec Vibrato plugin description
Vibrato is one of the oldest and most fundamental sound effects that mimics the natural fluctuation of pitch, often used by vocalists and instrumentalists to add expressiveness, warmth, and emotion to sound. In the world of electronic music and sound design, vibrato is a powerful tool for creating movement, depth, and unique character.
Audec Vibrato: Simplicity and Flexibility
The Vibrato plugin from Audec is a compact but extremely flexible effect that goes beyond simple classic vibrato. It combines traditional pitch shaking with frequency modulation (FM) capabilities, opening up a wide range of creative possibilities – from subtle, barely noticeable vibrations to extreme, synthesizer textures.
Key Features and Capabilities
- Shape: Choose between two basic shapes – Sine and Square. Sine provides a smooth, organic pitch fluctuation, ideal for mimicking a natural vibrato or creating a soft, undulating motion. The square shape creates a sharper, more “stepped” flutter that can sound modern, electronic, or even reminiscent of lo-fi effects.
- Rate: One of the most important parameters that determines the rate of oscillation. Audec Vibrato offers an extremely wide range of speeds, from a slow 0.1 Hz, ideal for long, breathy notes or slow atmospheric effects, to a dizzying 10 kHz. At high speeds, the vibrato effect is converted to pure frequency modulation (FM), allowing you to create metallic, ringing, dissonant, or harmonically rich tones that are impossible to achieve in other ways. This makes the plugin not only a vibrato, but also a kind of FM experimental tool.
- Depth: Controls the intensity of the effect – how much the pitch changes. From a subtle shimmer that adds life to a sound without significant change to extreme values that create dramatic pitch bends and wobble. The Depth setting allows you to precisely dose the effect to suit your needs.
- Dry/Wet (Signal Balance): This control allows you to mix a processed (Wet) and unprocessed (Dry) signal. This is useful for parallel processing, or for adding only part of an effect to the original sound, which helps to preserve its basic characteristics while adding only the desired movement or texture.
- Volume: A simple but important control for fine-tuning the output level of the signal after processing (-12 to +12 dB). Allows you to compensate for any changes in volume caused by the effect, or simply to fit the processed sound perfectly into the overall mix.
Application in Music and Sound Design
The Audec Vibrato plugin is a versatile tool that will find its place in almost any genre and for processing a variety of sound sources:
- Vocals: For a classic, warm vibrato that adds emotion, or to create bizarre, futuristic vocal effects with FM.
- Synthesizers: Bring static pads to life, add fatness to basslines, create pulsating leads, or experiment with new FM tones.
- Guitars and Bass: Create classic fuzz for guitar solos, surf rock effects, and bass lines.
- Keyboards and Organs: Imitate Leslie speakers (with a specific combination of settings) or add psychedelic “float”.
- Experiments: Apply to drums, percussion, field recordings to create unexpected and unique soundscapes.
