At its basic level, Vastaus effectively smooths out excessively harsh high frequencies. Even with the Input Gain and Tame at zero, the plugin provides neutral but effective smoothing, making the sound more pleasing to the ear.
Harmonic Enrichment and Subtle Control
Increasing the Tame knob expands the capabilities of Vastaus. In combination with the React switch, Tame allows certain transients to pass through processing in an interesting way, adding detail and clarity to the sound while maintaining its overall smoothness. This makes the sound more articulate and “alive” without unpleasant harshness.
A key element is the Bias parameter. It allows you to generate unique harmonics, affecting only the positive or negative side of the signal. Gain Staging and Flexible Mixing
For full control, Vastaus has Input Gain and Output Gain. Input Gain allows you to “load” the input section, adding “air” or saturation after smoothing, especially useful for guitars or acoustic instruments. Output Gain is a standard level control.
In combination with Bias, Vastaus can act as a light equalizer, controlling dynamics while simultaneously boosting and expanding the high-frequency spectrum, adding detail and presence.
