Hello fellow musicians and sonic experimenters! Today, we’ll dive into the world of rhythmic echoes and spatial textures with a plugin that promises to bring a breath of fresh air to your tracks. Meet Tapatiki by GaryG – a delay effect that puts simplicity and efficiency first, allowing you to quickly create captivating soundscapes.
What is Tapatiki?
Tapatiki is an 8-tap delay effect, designed with an emphasis on intuitiveness and ease of use. Forget complex menus and endless settings – this plugin is created for musicians who want to spend more time on creativity and less time struggling with the interface. Its main purpose is to create complex rhythmic delay patterns that can add groove and movement to any part, from guitar riffs to synthesizer lines and vocal parts.
Key Features
This plugin doesn’t just imitate a standard delay; it offers a flexible toolkit for sound manipulation. Let’s take a closer look at its features:
Flexible Delay Time Settings
- Tempo Sync: Tapatiki synchronizes perfectly with your project’s tempo, offering a wide range of options – from half notes (2/1) to very fast 64ths (1/64), including dotted and triplet divisions. This makes it ideal for creating synchronized, rhythmic effects that “dance” along with your track.
- Unsynced Mode: For more atmospheric or experimental effects, unsynced delay times of up to two seconds are available. This gives space for creating long, spatial echoes or interesting, grid-unbound sounds.
Full Control Over Each “Tap”
Each of the eight delay channels is completely independent and has its own settings, opening up limitless possibilities for sound design:
- Level: Precise control over the volume of each echo.
- Pan: Position the echoes in the stereo space, creating wide and spacious effects.
- Feedback: Adjust the number of repetitions for each tap, from a single barely noticeable echo to long, fading tails.
- Simple Filter: A unique two-way filter (Low Pass and High Pass) controlled by a single knob. This allows you to quickly shape the timbre of the echoes, making them darker or lighter.
Flexible Filter Placement
The filter can be placed both inside the feedback loop and after it. Placing it inside the loop means that each new echo will pass through the filter, gradually changing its timbre. Placing it after the loop filters only the final echo. This, seemingly small detail, significantly affects the character of the effect and allows for achieving various sonic results.
Global Feedback Multiplier and “Panic” Button
Tapatiki is equipped with a global feedback multiplier, which allows you to simultaneously change the intensity of repetitions for all channels from x0 (complete cessation of feedback) to x2. This is convenient for dynamic control of the effect during performance or automation.
Although the plugin is designed to prevent unwanted self-oscillation, there’s a “Panic Button” that instantly stops any feedback if something goes wrong. It’s a small thing, but it adds confidence during experiments.
Intuitive Control
Special attention has been paid to the convenience of the interface. The developer has abandoned drop-down menus in favor of sliders that are easy to drag from anywhere. There is also the ability to quickly set the control value with a right mouse click. This makes the setup process fast and efficient, allowing you to focus on the music.
Who is this Plugin For?
Tapatiki will be a useful tool for a wide range of musicians and producers:
- Electronic music musicians creating techno, house, ambient, and other genres where rhythmic delays are a key element.
- Guitarists looking for unusual and experimental delay effects.
- Producers working with vocals and wanting to add interesting space and rhythm to them.
