Spectral Suite

Open the World of Spectral Sound: Spectral Suite

Welcome to the exciting world of spectral sound processing with Spectral Suite by Andrew Reeman. This set of free VST plugins, based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) technology, offers unique tools for shaping and transforming your audio.

Forget about traditional effects! Spectral Suite allows you to manipulate individual frequency components of sound, opening up endless possibilities for creative sound design. It’s the perfect choice for both experimenters and those looking for fresh solutions for their mixes.

What’s Inside Spectral Suite?

This powerful suite includes five unique plugins, each offering its own approach to working with the spectrum:

  • Spectral Gate: This plugin acts as a gate, but works in the frequency domain. You can pass only those frequency components that are above a certain cutoff threshold, or invert this logic, passing only frequencies below the threshold. This allows you to effectively clean up the sound from unwanted noise in certain ranges or to isolate specific harmonics. Imagine how you can get rid of low-frequency hum or high-frequency whistling while maintaining the main tone of the instrument!
  • Sinusoidal Shaped Filter: Unlike ordinary filters, this effect applies the shape of the positive part of a cosine wave to the spectrum. By changing the phase, width, and center frequency, you can switch between different classic filter shapes, but with a unique spectral hue. This makes it possible to create unusual, “breathing” or “singing” filtering effects.
  • Frequency Magnet: This tool focuses the entire sound spectrum on one selected frequency component. Morphing between a clean signal and this “focused” state allows you to gradually reduce the spectral width of the signal. This can be useful for creating mono-compatibility effects in certain frequency ranges or for emphasizing specific resonances.
  • Frequency Shifter: This plugin shifts all frequencies of the signal up or down. Adding vibrato modulates this shift, creating effects similar to flanger or phaser, but with a characteristic spectral coloration. This is the perfect tool for creating disorienting, metallic, or synthetic texture effects.
  • Bin Scrambler: One of the most experimental plugins in the set. It randomly rearranges the contents of some frequency “bins” (components of spectral analysis) into others at a given speed. Interpolation between these “shuffles” provides smooth transitions, allowing you to create completely new, unpredictable, and surreal sounds. This is a real find for electronic musicians and sound designers looking for unique textures.

Why Should You Try Spectral Suite?

Spectral Suite is not just a set of effects, it’s an invitation to experiment with sound at a deep level. Using FFT allows you to work with audio material in a way that is impossible with traditional tools. The plugins are easy to use, but at the same time offer in-depth settings to achieve the desired result.

If you work in Windows (64-bit) and use a VST compatible program, Spectral Suite will be a great addition to your arsenal. It’s a free way to add a unique spectral hue to your tracks and expand the horizons of your sound space.
