Welcome to the world of unique sound transformation with SupaPhaser – a virtual VST plugin that opens new horizons for your audio. Created by talented developers Bram and Sean from Smartelectronix, this phaser goes beyond standard capabilities, offering captivating depth and flexibility.
Forget limitations – SupaPhaser allows you to immerse yourself in the vortex of phase shifts with unparalleled control. This tool doesn’t just add an effect – it transforms the sound, giving it movement, volume, and a unique character. From barely noticeable “revitalization” to extreme psychedelic waterfalls – all this is possible with SupaPhaser.
Unrivaled Flexibility and Unique Features
At the heart of SupaPhaser is its impressive number of phase shift stages. While most standard phasers offer a fixed or limited number of stages, SupaPhaser allows you to choose from 3 to an incredible 23 stages! This range opens up endless possibilities for sound design:
- 3-5 stages: Ideal for creating classic, subtle phaser effects, similar to vintage analog devices. Perfect for slightly “revitalizing” guitar parts, synthesizer pads, or adding space to vocals.
- 6-15 stages: The range for more pronounced, yet still musical effects. Here, you can achieve more intense “sweeps” and noticeable phase “flutter,” which will add movement and dynamics to the track without excessive aggression.
- 16-23 stages: This is the territory of experiments and unique sounds. Such a large number of stages creates an extremely dense and complex phase filter, which can lead to very unusual, almost alien textures. Ideal for creating atmospheric effects, futuristic sounds, or extreme processing of drum loops and percussion.
The ability to choose the exact number of stages that best suits your creative ideas makes SupaPhaser an incredibly powerful tool for any producer or sound engineer.
Dynamic Control and Characteristic Coloring
Control of the phase effect in SupaPhaser is implemented through a combination of a Low-Frequency Oscillator (LFO) and an Envelope Follower. This combination gives you extraordinary flexibility in controlling the dynamics and movement of the effect:
- LFO: Allows you to create a rhythmic, periodic movement of the effect with adjustable speed and waveform. You can sync it with the project’s tempo for precise pulsating or “floating” effects.
- Envelope Follower: Controls the intensity of the effect based on the level of the input signal. The louder the signal, the stronger the effect can be (or vice versa, depending on the settings). This adds interactivity and liveliness, allowing the effect to “breathe” along with the music.
An important feature is the ability to mix these two modulation sources and configure them in detail, which opens up even more possibilities for creating complex and unique phaser movements.
In addition, SupaPhaser is equipped with a feedback function that allows you to mix the output signal back into the input. Positive feedback amplifies the peaks of the phase filter, making the sound more resonant and “vocal.” Negative feedback, on the contrary, amplifies the dips, creating a characteristic “comb” filter. By combining feedback with the number of stages and modulation, you can achieve an extremely wide range of timbres.
Enhanced Stereo Effect and Additional Saturation
SupaPhaser also offers an enhanced stereo effect, which adds volume and space to your sound. This can be achieved through different LFO phase for the left and right channels or other intelligent processing methods that create a sense of width and movement in the stereo field.
Another interesting feature is the ability to add distortion or saturation before applying the phase effect. This unusual arrangement (usually distortion is placed after modulation) gives unique results. Saturation before the phaser adds harmonics to the signal, which will then be processed by the phase filter, resulting in richer, more complex, and often more aggressive or warm timbres. This adds a characteristic “analog” feel to the instrument, or, conversely, sharp digitization, depending on the saturation level.
