GMulti: Precise Dynamics and Stereo Image Control
GMulti by GVST is a powerful and versatile 3-band compressor designed to provide maximum control over the dynamics and stereo image of your audio material. This plugin allows you to work in detail with different frequency ranges independently, making it an indispensable tool for both mixing and mastering.
What is 3-band compression?
Unlike a broadband compressor, which processes the entire frequency spectrum of the signal simultaneously, a 3-band compressor divides the input signal into three separate bands: low, mid, and high frequencies. This division occurs at user-defined frequencies that you can customize. Each of these bands is then processed independently with its own compression and stereo width settings. After processing, the bands are remixed to form the final signal.
This approach provides unprecedented flexibility. For example, you can “glue” the bass guitar and the kick drum, making them dynamically more coherent without affecting the vocals or hi-hats. Or tame the harsh high frequencies that may occur on cymbals or synthesizers without “killing” the energy of the mid frequencies. The ability to work with stereo width separately for each band allows you to create a deeper and multi-layered stereo image, for example, make low frequencies monophonic and high frequencies wider.
Features and Functionality of GMulti
GMulti is equipped with a complete set of controls for precise adjustment of each band, as well as advanced visual feedback, which simplifies the work process. Key features include:
- 3-band split: The input signal is divided into low, mid, and high frequencies using two custom crossover points (Freq 1 and Freq 2).
- Independent compression: Each of the three bands (Low, Mid, High) has its own independent compression parameters.
- Full set of parameters per band: You can set Thresh (Threshold), Ratio (Ratio), Attack (Attack), and Release (Release) individually for each band.
- Gain and Level control: Gain (Input Gain), Level (Band Output Level), as well as the overall Mix (Mixing) for parallel compression.
- Stereo width control: The Width parameter allows you to independently change the stereo width of each frequency band, from mono to wide stereo.
- Low Cut filter: Allows you to cut off unnecessary ultra-low frequencies at the input.
- Mute per band: The ability to disable (mute) a separate band for listening and precise tuning.
- Visual feedback: Includes a display of the input/output signal oscilloscope and accurate Gain Reduction Meters for each band, which helps to visualize the work of the compressor.
Advantages of using GMulti
Using GMulti provides a number of significant advantages when working with audio:
- Precise dynamic processing: The ability to affect only problematic frequency ranges, leaving the rest of the signal untouched.
- Improved readability of the mix: Allows you to “clean up” low frequencies, tame resonances in the middle, or make high frequencies smoother without overall muting.
- Flexible stereo image shaping: Band-by-band stereo width control opens up new possibilities for panning and creating space in the mix.
- Intuitive interface: Visual indicators greatly facilitate setup, allowing you not only to hear but also to see how the compression works.
- Parallel compression: The Mix parameter allows you to easily mix the processed signal with the unprocessed signal to achieve the effect of parallel compression.
GMulti is a versatile tool that will find its place in the arsenal of any sound engineer. Whether you need to gently adjust the dynamics of a single instrument or perform the final mastering of a track, GMulti provides the necessary tools to achieve a professional result.
The plugin is available in VST format for Windows, MacOS, and Linux operating systems.
