GatePlus by Fretted Synth: Your Tool for Precise Dynamic Control
Welcome to the world of GatePlus – a powerful VST plugin by Fretted Synth, designed for musicians and sound engineers who strive for maximum control over the dynamics of their tracks. GatePlus is not just a typical noise gate; it’s an intelligent tool driven by a flexible amp envelope, opening up new horizons for creative and clean sound.
Forget about unwanted noise, background hum, or incorrect gate triggering. GatePlus is distinguished by its extremely fast attack, which is around 1.5 milliseconds. This feature allows the plugin to react instantly to the input signal, capturing even the fastest transients, which is critical for drums, percussion, or any instruments with a clear attack. Thanks to this, your mix will sound denser, cleaner, and more professional.
Not just a gate: Variety of versions for any needs
Fretted Synth has made sure that GatePlus is a universal solution. In the package, you will find four different versions of the plugin, adapted for different usage scenarios in your DAW:
- GatePlus: Standard mono version. The gate is triggered by the incoming mono signal. Ideally suited for processing individual mono instruments such as vocals, bass guitar, or mono synth parts.
- GatePlusSt: Standard stereo version. The gate is activated by a signal obtained by summing the left and right channels with the appropriate level compensation. This allows you to effectively process stereo instruments or subgroups, while maintaining the stereo image.
- GatePlusSC: Mono version with sidechain function. This version has a stereo input but a mono output. The gate is triggered by the signal from the left (№1) input, while the audio signal itself that needs to be gated and output is fed to the right (№2) input. This is a classic sidechain scenario, for example, for ducking the bass from the kick drum.
- GatePlusStSC: Stereo version with sidechain function. The most flexible version, having two stereo inputs and a stereo output. The gate is triggered by the summed signal from the first stereo input (with level compensation), and the sound source to be gated is fed to the second stereo input and output to the stereo output. This allows for complex sidechain scenarios with stereo signals.
Full Control: GatePlus Parameters
Each version of GatePlus is equipped with intuitive parameters that give you full control over the behavior of the gate and the shape of the envelope:
- Threshold: Sets the gate triggering threshold. Range from -68 dB to 0 dB. Low threshold values allow the gate to open even at a quiet signal, providing a long sustain. High values, on the contrary, open the gate only at peak signal values, which is ideal for quick retriggering or isolating transients.
- Decay (Gate): Adjusts the retrigger speed of the gate, controlling the time it takes for the gate to close after the signal drops below the threshold. High values help to avoid “stuttering” or unwanted re-opening of the gate during closing.
- Attack (Envelope): Sets the attack time of the amp envelope. This is the rate of increase in signal level after the gate opens. In GatePlus, this parameter allows you to additionally shape the sound attack after the gate has passed the signal.
- Decay (Envelope): Sets the decay time of the amp envelope. This is the rate of decrease in signal level after the attack phase ends and before the sustain phase begins. Along with the attack, it forms the body of the sound.
- Sustain (Envelope): Sets the sustain level of the amp envelope. This is a steady level at which the signal is held after the decay phase, as long as the gate remains open.
- Release (Envelope): Sets the release time of the amp envelope after the gate has completely closed. Controls how quickly the signal fades after the active phase is over.
GatePlus by Fretted Synth is an indispensable tool in the arsenal of any musician or sound engineer working with dynamics. It allows you not only to effectively get rid of noise but also to creatively shape the sound, creating rhythmic patterns using sidechain or controlling the sustain of instruments. Try GatePlus and see for yourself its effectiveness and flexibility!
The plugin is available in VST format for the Windows operating system (Win32).
