Britpressor is a characterful tool, perfect for both subtle peak smoothing and aggressive “pumping” on individual instruments, groups, or the entire mix. The intuitive controls make it quick and efficient to work with.
In-Depth Functionality and Controls
The plugin is equipped with all the parameters for complete control over dynamics:
- COMPRESSOR THRESHOLD: Sets the level above which compression is activated (orange). Lower values = more active compression.
- COMPRESSOR RECOVERY: Determines the speed at which the compressor returns (orange). Adjust for the desired “breathing” or transparency.
- LIMITER LEVEL: Sets a hard ceiling for the output level. Guarantees no clipping and adds subjective loudness.
- LIMITER RECOVERY: Controls the recovery speed of the limiter.
- GAIN: Output level control (Make-Up Gain) after the limiter, to compensate for lost loudness.
- RATIO: Determines the degree of signal compression exceeding the threshold.
- MIX: Allows mixing of processed and unprocessed signals. Essential for parallel compression.
Innovative Multi-Band Sidechain
The true highlight of Britpressor is the built-in multi-band equalizer for the sidechain. This allows the plugin to respond to the dynamics of the signal by focusing on specific frequency ranges:
- HPF: Cuts off low frequencies from the sidechain signal. Useful for “pumping” from the kick drum without excessive “pumping” from the sub-bass.
- MID: Control (1.6 kHz) for the sensitivity of compression to mid frequencies in the sidechain.
- HIGH: Control (10 kHz) for the sensitivity of compression to high frequencies in the sidechain.
- EXT: Activation to use an external signal as a sidechain source (ducking, “pumping”).
Compatibility
Britpressor is compatible with Windows (64-bit) and MacOS, available in VST and AU formats. For optimal performance in Ableton Live on MacOS, it is recommended to use the VST version.
