Bachelard by Saltline: Advanced Time-Based Effects Plugin with Modulation

Discover new dimensions in sound design with Bachelard – a versatile VST plugin by Saltline that combines classic time-based effects with powerful filtering and modulation capabilities. This tool is designed for musicians and sound engineers who aim to go beyond standard delays and reverbs, adding unique dynamics and movement to their tracks.

Bachelard doesn’t just provide delay and reverb effects; it integrates them with comprehensive control tools, allowing you to create everything from subtle spatial nuances to experimental soundscapes.

Main Modules: Delay and Reverb

At the heart of Bachelard are its two main effect modules:

  • Delay Module: Offers flexible control over delay time. You can synchronize the delay with your host’s tempo, set it in free mode, or, most interestingly, control the delay speed using the Key Tracking function. This allows you to create harmonic delays that change depending on the note played. Delay feedback can also be controlled using Key Tracking, opening the door to even more unusual sounds.
  • Reverb Module: Provides a full set of parameters for shaping space: Size, Width, Damp, and Mix. As with the delay module, the Size and Mix parameters can be linked to the Key Tracking function, allowing the reverb to respond to the pitch of notes, creating dynamic and melodic spatial effects.

Built-in Filters

Both effect modules are equipped with identical filters – two self-oscillating state-variable (SV) filters. These filters allow you to shape the frequency spectrum of both the delay and the reverb, adding warmth, brightness, or, conversely, attenuating the sound of the effects. The Cutoff frequency of the filters also supports the Key Tracking function, allowing the filters to “follow” the melody, creating unique interactions between the musical material and the effect.

Advanced Modulation and MIDI Control

The true power of Bachelard is revealed through its comprehensive modulation system and MIDI integration.

  • Three Identical LFOs: The plugin has three independent low-frequency oscillators (LFOs). Each LFO offers five different waveforms and three speed control modes: free, host sync, and Key Tracking. This gives unprecedented control over modulation sources.
  • Modulation Matrix: The most important part of the modulation system. Each LFO can be assigned to several targets in the delay and reverb modules, including: delay speed, delay feedback, delay filter cutoff and resonance, reverb size, width, damp, mix, and reverb filter cutoff and resonance. This allows you to create complex, moving, and interconnected sound effects.
  • MIDI Control: LFO functions can be activated via MIDI notes (Trigger function). Key Tracking-controlled parameters can be assigned to different MIDI channels, providing additional flexibility when using the plugin with different MIDI controllers or instruments.

Conclusion

Bachelard by Saltline is not just a set of delay and reverb effects. It is a flexible and powerful sound design tool that combines high-quality time-based effects with intuitive filtering, advanced modulation via LFOs and the matrix, and deep integration with the Key Tracking and MIDI functions. It is ideal for creating atmospheric textures, rhythmic effects, dynamic spaces, and experimental sound transformations. Add Bachelard to your VST effects collection and unleash its potential to create unique soundscapes in your music. The plugin is available in VST format for Windows operating systems (Win32).
