Two Key Controls: Boost and Tame
The philosophy of Air Shelf is simplicity and efficiency. Control over the high-frequency spectrum is in two main knobs:
- Boost: Responsible for amplifying the upper range. This is a high-quality high shelf with a center frequency of approximately 20 kHz. Full de-crimping linearization up to 21 kHz ensures smooth and natural amplification without artifacts. Turn up the Boost to add openness, space, and brilliance to vocals, acoustic instruments, drums, or the overall mix.
- Tame: Designed to tame aggressive high-frequency “spikes.” Works as a hybrid of a fast dynamic equalizer and a transient shaper. Unlike traditional multi-band processors, the Tame action does not depend on the overall signal level, and there are no crossovers here. Tame specifically affects only short-term high-frequency peaks, leaving the main part of the signal intact. Use it to smooth out harshness and sibilance, control cymbals or percussion without “killing” the overall “air.”
